As I type these words, it seems the media sources around our country are holding their collective breath in anticipation of several forthcoming decisions by the Supreme Court. These cases range in topic from the affordable healthcare act to same-sex marriage and civil unions. In effect, the ruling of the court is often considered the final word on any issue, but it isn’t. When it comes to issues of morality and human behavior, the determination of right and wrong rests with a higher court, THE Supreme Court, presided over by the Judge of the Universe, who alone is the final Arbiter of right and wrong. Thankfully, we do not have to wait for a decision by God to determine what is right or wrong, for He has already revealed His decision in His law, the Bible.
“All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (II Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)
These verses from the Apostle Paul make it clear that the scriptures are sacred and they are sufficient; the Bible was given to us by God and it provides God’s guidance. This is the reason that one of our Core Values at West Park is BIBLICAL TRUTH. Our desire is to be “a people of the Book” so we will know God and His ways, and as a result, be able to make Him and His ways known to those around us. God shares His truth with us as an incredible gift of His love so that we can walk in His ways; those are the paths of true success and real prosperity.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8 ESV)
Now that is a Supreme Court decision we can really live with!

Pastor Sam,
I thank God that we at West Park have you for our pastor! Yes, we believers of the faith can be rest assured that He is the One in control of every situation no matter what the law may read. We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith and not lose our focus to the turmoil associated with the law of man.
In Christ,
Melody Smith

It was hugely encouraging to hear you announce that you would address the issue of Christian living and civil disobedience. We must be prepared to stand strong and to suffer as becomes necessary.
