Each year, members of the West Park community nominate biblically-qualified men to serve in the role of deacon. Because God has commended deacons as vital servant leaders for each local church, we can have confidence that God has prepared and raised up among us men ready to take on the deacon role.
What Kind of Men should be Deacons?
Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. I Timothy 3:8-13
What Do West Park’s Deacons Do?
The deacons of West Park serve the church family in the following areas:
Mercy – caring for the sick and infirm, the elderly, the widows, the fatherless and the grieving.
Benevolence – assessing and responding to cases of significant financial need among the people of our fellowship.
Finance – serving with the Administration Team to establish and administer the church budget.
Deacon Support Team – helping to assist the Pastors in caring for specific needs in the congregation and other aspects of sharing life together as disciples of Jesus Christ.
How Can You Help in this Nomination Process?
Ask God to show you the men in your community who already embody the servant-leader qualities of a deacon and turn in their names as nominees for the pastoral team’s consideration. Be sure to confirm their willingness to serve before nominating individuals.
