Visions of golden crowns, purple robes,
red carpets and magnificent thrones
dance through my head.
I have a confession to make . . . I am a Royals watcher. No, NOT the tabloids! I read biographies, historical accounts, and watch documentaries about the Royal family of the United Kingdom. Their lives, decisions, and influence fascinate me!
Here is one of their stories. Edward the VIII, king of England was in love with Wallis Simpson. She was a woman considered unworthy to be with a king. She had a questionable past and an “unfortunate” reputation. Edward was forced to choose between his crown and his heart. He could not have both. Edward fought to bring Wallis into his royal family and kingdom, but in the end, he abandoned it all for her.
On December 11, 1936, Edward the VIII officially abdicated his throne to marry Wallis Simpson. They paid a high price and the relationship continued to be controversial as they both lived a life of social exile.
I have another confession. THIS is my favorite Royals story! I love it because it reminds me of this time of year. Edward was not the only king to abandon his throne for love. Philippians 2 tells the beautiful story of how Jesus abandoned everything to pursue a relationship with me and with you.
I very much identify with Wallis. I am of no reputation and unworthy to be with a King, but Jesus thought otherwise. He humbled Himself, endured social and political rejection, and finally, paid the highest price, His life, to make me His own.
So, during this Christmas holiday season visions of my own Royal story dance through my head.
The birth of THE King.
A place in HIS royal family.
A future home in HIS kingdom.
I am overwhelmed by HIS love.
