Praying the Power of the Psalms – Psalm 51

blog_prayingthepowerofthepsalms

Day 12 – Psalm 51:1-12

1Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
2Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

3For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
4Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You may be justified in Your words and blameless in Your judgment.
5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6Behold, You delight in truth in the inward being, and You teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that You have broken rejoice.
9Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
10Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
11Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Prayer of Reflection:

“Lord, Your love knows no bounds. Even in my darkest hours, Your grace and Your mercy shine through. Thank you for inspiring David, a man after Your own heart, to write this psalm of repentance. So many times in my own life, I have been brought to this same place where this has been the cry of my heart, too. Each time I have fallen by the error of my sin, You have been faithful to hear my cry for help and lift me up out of my mess.

“Search my heart, Lord. You alone know the depths of my soul and the dark corners of my heart that even I am blind to. Reveal to me how I need to change. Thank you for the guidance, wisdom, and conviction of Your Holy Spirit, without which I would be lost to the temptations of this world. Hold me upright and keep me from straying as I walk the narrow path that leads to You.

“Lord, every time I read this psalm I am overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude for what Your Son did on the cross. Thank you for saving me and adopting me into Your kingdom, for blotting out my sins and keeping me near You. You are my rock and my salvation, and I thank You for Your forgiveness. In Your name I pray, Amen.”

I am humbled to be cleansed of all my sins which are many. The Lord saw fit to save me even though I am not worthy. By grace I have found peace for which I am grateful. May God’s grace be with us all today and always.

When I received Christ through the person of the Holy Spirit, to feel a worse sinner than ever before was progress. The dead feel nothing. Dirt and dust are only revealed after the coming of the LIGHT. I read these verses and the reflection and ask Jesus to forgive ,with assurance that He will put my sins as far as East is from West. I seek Him for the courage and strength to change me to look more and more like Him……oh Lord that this day there will be less and less of me and more and more of You….
    I surrender…..
