Praying the Power of the Psalms – Psalm 136

blog_prayingthepowerofthepsalms

Day 7 – Psalm 136

1Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.
2Give thanks to the God of gods, for His steadfast love endures forever.
3Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His steadfast love endures forever;

4to Him who alone does great wonders, for His steadfast love endures forever;
5to Him who by understanding made the heavens, for His steadfast love endures forever;
6to Him who spread out the earth above the waters, for His steadfast love endures forever;
7to Him who made the great lights, for His steadfast love endures forever;
8the sun to rule over the day, for His steadfast love endures forever;
9the moon and stars to rule over the night, for His steadfast love endures forever;

10to Him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for His steadfast love endures forever;
11and brought Israel out from among them, for His steadfast love endures forever;
12with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for His steadfast love endures forever;
13to Him who divided the Red Sea in two, for His steadfast love endures forever;
14and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for His steadfast love endures forever;
15but overthrew Pharaoh and His host in the Red Sea, for His steadfast love endures forever;
16to Him who led his people through the wilderness, for His steadfast love endures forever;

17to Him who struck down great kings, for His steadfast love endures forever;
18and killed mighty kings, for His steadfast love endures forever;
19Sihon, king of the Amorites, for His steadfast love endures forever;
20and O, king of Bashan, for His steadfast love endures forever;
21and gave their land as a heritage, for His steadfast love endures forever;
22a heritage to Israel his servant, for His steadfast love endures forever.

23It is He who remembered us in our low estate, for His steadfast love endures forever;
24and rescued us from our foes, for His steadfast love endures forever;
25He who gives food to all flesh, for His steadfast love endures forever.

26Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His steadfast love endures forever.

Prayer of Reflection:

“Oh Father God in Heaven, great is Your name in all the universe! You are the One true God…King of kings and Lord of lords. You are worthy of our praise and devotion, and Your incredible love for us endures forever! Thank you, Lord, for loving us so deeply and passionately, that You would lay down Your life for us. You are our good Father who alone does great wonders and mighty acts to show love toward Your people and bring glory to Your name.

“Thank you for Your mighty act of creation which displays Your majestic power all around us. By Your understanding the heavens and earth were made. You put the stars, the planets, the sun and the moon in their place. How great are You, oh God…Your love endures forever! Thank you, Great Shepherd, for caring and providing for Your people. As You led the Israelites out of captivity and bondage in Egypt to the Promised Land, You guide us through the deserts of life to safe pastures. Truly, Your love endures forever!

“Thank you, Lord Jesus, Mighty Warrior, for fighting our battles and freeing us from our enemies of sin, discouragement, and despair in this fallen world. Thank you, Lord, for the internal inheritance You’ve prepared for those who love You and live according to Your will. Undoubtedly, Your love endures forever!

“Finally Lord, thank you for Your endless love and grace to all who call on Your name. Just as Your love endures forever, may we forever lift Your name on high with thankful hearts for all You have done for us!! In the precious and most powerful name of Jesus I pray these things, Amen.”

    It is so important to remember that our God is up to something truly “big”. What a blessing it is that He has chosen us to be part of what He is doing. I needed this word of reminder this morning that what happens in our daily lives is important, because He is working all things together for His glory. His steadfast love endures forever!

    It is a great comfort to think on how God’s love and mercy endures forever. Just what I needed to pick my spirit up today. Thanks
