Praying the Power of the Psalms – Psalm 47

Day 8 – Psalm 47

1Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
2For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.
3He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
4He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom He loves. Selah

5God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!

8God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.
9The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is highly exalted!

Prayer of Reflection:

“Dear Most Precious Heavenly Father,

“Oh, how my heart is full of joy and gladness that You, my God, are the great King over all the earth!  That You alone subdue nations under Your authority and no one or no thing can ever overthrow You.  Thank you that You chose my inheritance for me through Christ Jesus.  An inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade–kept in heaven for me just as You have promised because of Your unfailing love.  It is because of the truth of this promise that my mouth will forever sing praises to You my God and King!

“Even though these days are full of darkness, confusion, and lack of wisdom, how grateful and comforting it is to know that You are King of all the earth, that You reign over the nations, and that You are seated on Your holy throne firmly established.

“May we, as Your children, remember to humbly submit ourselves to You as we gather to pray and remind ourselves that all the rulers of the earth belong to You, and that You place in positions of authority whom You choose, so that Your Name may be greatly exalted!

“In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Lord, in spite of our fallen condition you still constantly love us. Our stubbornness have not hindered your love for us. Great is your faithfulness oh God unto a undeserving people and nation. Help us to reciprocate that love for you so that you will be glorified and the world can know that you are our Savior. Please intervene in our daily activities today to show yourself to be the mighty God that you are!
