Praying the Power of the Psalms – Psalm 73

blog_prayingthepowerofthepsalms

Day 15 – Psalm 73:25-28

25Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You.
26My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

27For behold, those who are far from You shall perish; You put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to You.
28But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.

Prayer of Reflection:

“Lord, thank you for my suffering. This life is hard, my body fails me, but I know that through it all You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever. My suffering drives me even deeper into Your love and shows me that Your grace is enough, every single day.

“Thank you for the hope of heaven. Thank you for the hope that one day I will live in a place without sin and brokenness. I will be reunited with loved ones, have my tears wiped away, and experience the life without sin I was always meant for.

“But Lord, always remind me that if I don’t have You I have nothing. Remind me that nothing else will satisfy me. What makes heaven is that You are there. I look forward to that far more than anything else. You will be my portion forever.

“Help me to always remember Your promises. That, because of Jesus, I will spend eternity with You. That You are making all things new. And that the pain and sorrow of this life will one day be a memory because of Your amazing grace. Amen.”

There really is no heaven without God. Only he can save us with the loving mercy of his grace. Those who refuse him and his love will perish. That makes my heart rejoice knowing that I embrace the Lord and will know eternal love and eternal life.

My brother, you truly put the emphasis squarely where it belongs…on God. Of all the blessings we will richly enjoin in heaven, being in the presence of the Lord far outweighs everything else. You remind me that it is so important not to lose sight of that reality. Thanks for bringing this refreshing thought to my time of devotion this morning.

Thank you Jesus for using Jake to point me to Jesus this morning! Thankful that God is my refuge when the things of earth weigh me down. Help me to better proclaim your presence God in my life in all things.
